The Big Freeze

As soon as I set one foot out of the forever warm and cosy Field End yesterday evening, the virtually suffocating chill came right up to me. Having gone through the bitterly, bitterly cold weather for quite a while, this was the very first time I felt like cursing and swearing — Absolutely not gonna be a “loving mommy” again in my next life, bloody hell!!

Well, frankly, this has been a brand new life experience. I did see snow in Minakami, Japan, 13 years ago, and the sight was spectacular which really made me feel so humble in the face of nature’s magnificence. However, living with snow is a different case.

Ever since the big freeze started more than a week ago, we’ve been bombarded with news of the snowy mess — people from all walks of life everywhere are heavily affected by the freezing weather. I recalled how my German girlfriend once complained to me about the snowy weather — In her house, only the kids and the cats enjoy the fun, while the adults resent the hard work of clearing the driveway and the like. For us, we don’t drive and Summerhill is within the walking distance, so it’s not exactly a problem. However, from time to time, it does require some extra-chirpy thoughts to convince my poor legs to walk in the snowstorm after the sky has turned dark.

Several days ago, I made yet another shopping excursion to Ipswich for Beam’s thermal underwear and leggings. While waiting for the bus, snowflakes started to come down, and got heavier over time. I had to keep wiggling my poor toes as they had begun sobbing because of the cold.

After having boarded at last, I found to my dismay that the window panes next to me offered nothing but some blurred and distorted images due to the temperature difference. I’m the kind who just loves to look out of the window throughout the journey, wherever the destination I’m heading for. So!! I sat up and landed my eyes on the big windows in the front, sharing the clear view with my friendly Mr Driver.

I was glad with my decision of changing perspectives, for I experienced one of the most beautiful illusions in my life — We were virtually like floating inside a giant snow globe!! I was immediately set in a fairy-tale mood, happy ever after…  So you see, there are thousands of ways to see the world and it’s all up to us really, for attitude decides.

Another happy discovery of mine about the big freeze is that… I was lucky enough to catch the glimpse of the golden sun behind the clouds, however gloomy it might have been. Sunshine’s never far away, and all we have to do is just waiting patiently ^_^

It is said that the big freeze may last until New Year. Herbert is in doubt. Well, whether it’ll be true, what I know for sure is that I’m going to keep my fingers and toes crossed tightly, wishing the world a merrily peaceful and safe winter!

God bless!!

One snowy morning
Herbert’s snowy garden
Winter Wonderland
So fairy-tale-like…

I love the sky and snowy trees!!

Very powdery ~
Beyond the clouds, sunshine awaits, always!

Now she wears boots to keep warm.

Not terrorist, just cold…

Beam’s new coat, it comes with matching smittens

Mm… that I’m not so sure of. Beam did tell me about her design of the future — there’ll be snow in Singapore, but it won’t be that cold. And I’ll delete all the stupid schools like Jie Min (her primary school in Singapore) and save only Summerhill, so that all children in the world can enjoy Summerhill… How cool is that?! ^_*
Yup, he’s joining us on 22nd.
